Interview + #Giveaway with Abbey MacInnis; HOLIDAY JINX

Just in time for the holidays … Author Abbey MacInnis is here today to answer some questions about her new holiday romance release, HOLIDAY JINX! This sweet romance also comes with an additional twist of a little bit of paranormal thrown in to the mix that you’ll want to stay tuned in to find out more about. Plus she’s come with goodies!
Please tell readers a little bit about yourself.
I live in Michigan with my family who totally rock in providing support to me so I could follow my dreams.
I’ve always loved to read. I read my first romance when I was twelve. Yeah I know. Probably too young, but I fell in love with the genre even then.
Please tell us about your latest release.
Holiday Jinx is a contemporary romance with a little magic thrown in as i like to call it.
It features two toy company CEOs who are virtually competitors, but who need each other to maintain or grow their companies. Natalie needs Chris’s financial backing, and Chris, although he believes he needs no one, comes to realize that there’s more to life than being a scrooge. But there’s more to Chris, and that’s what I loved about his character. Both he and Natalie have tough pasts where relationships are concerned. Then there’s Jinx who has her own issues to overcome.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year…unless you’re single and lonely.
Jinx—one of Santa’s elves—is in trouble with the Big Guy. She’s been charged with bringing holiday happiness to Christopher Ragan, CEO of Wondrous Toys. It’s a big job especially when he’s more attached to the bottom of a bottle than helping his fellow man.
She’s got enough trouble without spilling the secrets of the North Pole, but then along comes Natalie Burnes, a newbie CEO of Enchanted Toys and in trouble of a hostile takeover from Christopher’s company. The woman literally crashes Christopher’s vacation plans in a tucked away Michigan cabin—and the sparks start flying.
As if Jinx’s job of matchmaking the toy makers isn’t hard enough, she’s got to stay one step ahead of the North Pole patrol and keep out of sight of the humans. No way is she gonna screw up and lose her magic again. If the humans can’t find happiness and love by Christmas, Jinx forfeits her chance of seeing her true love too. What’s an elf to do?
What inspired you to write this book?
I first got the idea for this book when writing the opening scene. Jinx’s character was so strong and so real to me. All I knew for the longest time was this elf nearly destroyed Christmas for the world’s children and she had to pay for making such a near fatal mistake.
Fleshing out Chris and Natalie’s characters weren’t so easy, but once I tapped in to their goals motivations and conflicts, the book just came together on its own.
Was there a character you enjoyed writing the most?
I love Natalie and Chris, but writing the scenes with Jinx were a blast. She’s such a smart ass, but yet so adorable too.
Please share with readers who or what is the antagonist of your story.
Believe it or not, its’ Santa. That might be a surprise, but he kind of was the villain of this book because he was just waiting for Jinx to fail her assignment which was making Chris and Natalie fall in love sans her magic.
Without giving away spoilers, can you share your favorite scene from the book?
That’s tough. I have a few I love – the one where Chris and Natalie first meet in the book. The one where Jinx is transported to the cabin. LOL The one where Natalie and Chris have a snowball fight. And finally, the second to last scene of the book. Whew.
What was one of the most interesting things you learned during your research?
Haha. This is totally unrelated to the story, but it makes me chuckle. My family has a cabin we go to during the summer. So one night before bed, i see these seeds on my bed and under my pillow. Come to find out there’s a resident chipmunk in the cabin. I definitely didn’t sleep in that bed that night. During the night, I thought I heard the chipmunk. I was really still writing the beginning of the book. Chris and Natalie struggle with believing that they’re hearing a voice creature sight unseen. Kind of reminded me of hearing that chipmunk because I thought maybe I was half asleep or something, but yet I knew I knew I heard it.
How do you like your heroes and heroines?
Strong, sexy, independent, vulnerable and with a sense of humor.
Other than writing, what are some of your passions in life?
I love to sing. i’m trained as a classic vocalist. i love to read and go to the movies and spend time with my family and friends. I love dogs, my black Lab in particular. Tess is the best companion I could ever have. Cooking is relaxing. And eating chocolate can be orgasmic.
What can readers expect next from you?
Ah, I’m working on the first story in an erotic trilogy called Good Vibrations. I want to say it will be a novella, but who knows with me.
I’m aiming to release it in March, but it could be sooner. Sign up for my newsletter or follow me on social media, since that’s where I go when I have a new release.
What is one particular aspect about the book that you want readers to take away from this interview?
There’s touches of humor in this book, but there are places which might seem intense to you because they are for the characters. I hope you will reflect on what the holidays mean to you and what your family means to you. What and who do you value in your life? Do you show or tell them you care enough?
