I’d like to start by thanking Tanya for inviting me to stop by and talk about taking a chance on love. Gather close because I’ve decided to put a personal spin on this topic.
I met my husband at a function I didn’t want to go to, in a dress I didn’t want to wear. I’d just discovered what it felt like to have my heart pulverized, I’d sworn off all men till the end of time, and (being young) the idea of dating an older man who was looking for a serious relationship would’ve been hilarious… if anyone had dared to suggest it. But when the determined matchmakers at our table – all twenty of them – casually got up and wandered off, I didn’t cause a scene.
It turns out that being the sole focus of a room full of interested onlookers can bond strangers pretty quickly. Accepting the hand my-future-hubby held out to me made complete sense because we’d be less of a target on the dance floor than sitting there where we were. Several happy hours went by, but when it was time to leave I surrounded myself with other people so that I wouldn’t have to turn down a date that I wasn’t ready for. Not too brave, huh?
Needless to say he asked around afterwards and found an awesome way to contact me. (Guys: if you show up unexpectedly on a girl’s home turf and ask her out in front of a large audience she’ll be so impressed that ‘no’ won’t even enter her mind.) Those memories from 1987 are still clear after all these years, but we wouldn’t have gotten together or stayed together without taking some chances along the way.
My heroine in His Unexpected Family is faced with taking a second giant leap of faith after the first one ended in disaster. She doesn’t know if she can do it, and most people I know have stood in her shoes at one time or another. My closing question is this: if love was the prize, would you leap?

thanks for a great post and congrats on the new release.
In answer to your question… yes
Thanks Erin. And great answer
At my age – of course!!!
Hi Karen, I think leaping for love is a valid pastime at any age!
You betcha!!
Hey Martha, the world’s going to be full of leaping women. Hope the men are ready for us!
To me there is no bigger prize, so I would absolutely leap:)
Hi Yadira, I agree on there being no bigger prize. I love that there’s so much leaping going on
Yes! Thanks for the chance to win!
Happy leaping, Natasha. And you’re welcome
Congrats on the new release. This book sounds fantastic. Can’t wait to read it. I know people say there’s nothing greater, but I’m not sure I’d leap. Why go for the unknown, when you can have what you know.
Thanks so much, Joanne. I’m so intrigued by your answer. Love is always the great unknown (to begin with) but I wonder what it is that is ‘known?’ I’m guessing friendship, and that’s a wonderful prize as well. I wish you happiness in what you have and the courage to leap if an unmissable opportunity arises.
I’d definitely leap. I’m making a big leap in the relationship I’m in right now, so I understand the pull wanting to take a chance.
Congratulations Melissa! I hope your big leap turns out to be the best thing you’ve ever done.
I would definitely leap for love. If you have love nothing else matters.
So true! *plans class so we can all improve our leaping skills
The hardest thing to overcome is that you are leaping blind. I think we would all leap if we knew for sure what was on the other side.
Hi Jen. It’s definitely the unknown landing site that makes us hesitate, but it’s awesome that we usually go ahead and jump anyway.
Oh, without a doubt!
Hi Lisa. Without a doubt is a great answer!
