He should push her away…but he’d rather have his wicked way with her. That Old Black Magic, Book 4
After too many years learning death from the inside out as the familiar of a voodoo queen, soul collector Samael Gorasola betrayed his boss, which landed him on demon death row.
He should have known not even his punishment would come easy, but the deal he’s offered to escape his fate stinks. Become the indentured servant to his despised enemy? No thanks, he’d rather be six feet under. With that in mind, he picks a deadly fight with two demon hunters, only to be rescued by one misguided, deliciously innocent white witch.
Marabella hasn’t a clue what possessed her to help Sam, particularly since he’s not the least bit grateful. She blames it on her overwhelming attraction to the dark, dangerous demon, and her exasperating quest to rid herself of the stubborn curse that guards her virginity. If the guild finds out, though, she can kiss her white-witch status goodbye.
A kiss is exactly what she gets, followed by a consuming hunger that breaks down all heavenly and earthly barriers…and leaves Sam saddled with the one thing he never wanted, a conscience, and a connection to Marabella that puts her soul on the line.

Product Warnings
This book contains torturous use of disco music, one sinfully sexy demon who revels in being bad, a virgin witch whose innocence runs more than skin deep, and plenty of wicked, forbidden sex with explosive side effects—literally.
Jodi Redford never fails to deliver. Getting Familiar With Your Demon is just one more story that illustrates Jodi’s ability to create these unique urban fantasy worlds filled with twists and turns to paranormal aspects, sexiness from some of the most intriguing and, well, sexy people, and loads of laugh-out-loud humor! You’ll melt one romantic moment, laugh another, sizzle from the heat, and get your pulse jumping from the danger these loveable characters always find themselves battling their way out of.
Tucked away in Georgia is a coven of witches who always seem to find themselves in the sights — and bed of — some seriously sexy, usually brooding, paranormal heroes. In the case of GFWYD, you’ll meet the innocent and loveable Marabella. She’s just a witch trying to prove herself while being under her mother’s constant disapproving glances. She doesn’t exactly help matters any by inviting one scorchin’ hot demon back to her place to help rid her of her pesky virginity, then saddling herself up with him to help him save his — and her — souls. *g* Marabella is the type of heroine that I love, and way more than what she seems on the surface — which makes this a large part of the unraveling of the plot.
Samael. Sam. Our hero. Where do I even start with this yummy piece of demon meat? He truly is the bad guy that you fall in love with in this story. Or at least until he gets wrapped up with Marabella, then his whole hellish world gets thrown off kilter, as he ends up with a conscience, and on the verge of spilling the “L-word” from his lips. What’s a demon to do when he falls in love with the enemy? *sigh*
The hero and heroine are the prime example of yin and yang. One’s a demon soul collector and the other a white (good) witch paired with the genes of a .. well you’ll just have to read to find out!
But there is no doubt that their opposition on the sides of good vs. evil makes for some fabulous counterbalancing, leaving them to truly complete one another. Awww… And with friction comes great fireworks! As always, Redford packs a lot of heat in her books that is sure to make you sizzle.
True to Jodi Redford style, the secondary characters are just as great and meaningful. Jodi really does capture the essence of urban fantasy with characters that have funny, witty “real-life” dialogue and antics that makes you laugh and think of at least one crazy-ass person you know in your life!
Pair the characters’ sense of humanity with their closed world paranormal aspects and you have for some great conflicts and humor.
The whole That Old Black Magic series is the perfect read for any paranormal/urban fantasy romance fan who loves HOT scenes that leave you breathless from the sexiness, then choking as you gasp for air from laughing. Jodi does a great job at giving these characters depth and allowing them to explore emotions that the characters may be unused to having. It gives the reader a front row seat to the show, watching each learn to deal with and accept these internal conflicts, all while battling external ones. I appreciate Jodi’s writing style as it flows with ease, a fabulous pace, and like I keep mentioning, is rife with such witty humor that makes you feel as though you could travel to Georgia to hang out with everyone!
For fans just being introduced to The Old Black Magic series, you could technically start in with any book and be fairly okay without being lost. Prior characters do make cameo appearances and are referred to occasionally in the books, but each book focuses on the conflict and resolution between the hero and heroine — and usually villains that are making their first appearance. Although, this may change in the upcoming book to this series.
With everything being said, however, I always recommend that you start at the beginning to get a true picture of where the series, the world-building, and characters originated and are steaming from.
I truly enjoy this series, the different twists Jodi always brings to the table when creating her characters, and anxiously look forward to each and every new installment!! Thanks, Jodi, for creating such a fun, enjoyable, and smokin’ hot world readers can escape to!
