Blog Tour: Interview & Giveaway w/ Jamie Salisbury {TIMELESS SOJOURN}
Recently divorced at a time when most women are enjoying their children being grown, Anne Harrison finds her life in chaos. At the urging of her forever-friend Kat, Anne moves back to Seattle, her childhood home, to get back her former confidence and make a fresh start.
Confident, creative, and a successful businessman, Geoffrey Quinn has depths not immediately apparent to those who come into contact with that cocky, devilishly handsome exterior.
The last thing either is looking for is a relationship. Anne finds Geoff highly irritating (and young!) at best, while Geoffrey finds her magnetic and wise. To his amusement, she futilely attempts to dismiss him each time they cross paths, and sparks fly.
Watch as this seemingly unsuitable, disparate duo lights a fiery, compelling attraction neither sees coming. But who will get burned?
Please tell readers a little bit about yourself.
Jamie Salisbury cannot imagine a time when she did not write. A skill that has served her well throughout her diversified professional career that encompassed public relations in and around the entertainment industry, photography, editing, and special event planning.
An avid reader of history, biographies, and romance it’s only natural that she prefers to write historical romances with characters said to be “so authentic they spring forth from the page and shake the reader’s hand.” No stranger to life threatening situations Jamie pulls from life experience when she creates her stories. Such as when her family had to escape Chile when she was a teen because of the unstable political climate.
Unable to walk great distances as a result of several foot surgeries, she started writing once again as a way to pass the time. With the completion of her first novel Perpetual Love she dove head first into the eBook and digital publishing paradigm. She couldn’t be happier with her decision to grab the publishing industry by the shoulders and force it to pay attention to all she has to offer.
What was the inspiration behind the book?
The book is in part based on real life. I was inspired because it is about an issue that is overlooked or ignored, and I thought it needed to be told and shared.
Can you tell readers who are not familiar with the series what the premise of the stories are about?
Timeless Sojourn is the first of the series – it is about a woman of a certain age who finds herself going through a divorce and having to restart her life. Her divorce was not the usual “he’s having an affair” situation either. It entails how beat down mentally she finds herself and how she brings herself back around.
Please share with us who or what is the antagonist of your story.
There are more than one — Anne’s ex-husband is always lurking in the background. He will reveal himself more in the next book. Then there is Geoffrey’s own brother – who’s a real ****!! He does some despicable things – out of spite and to try and ruin Geoffrey.
Without giving away spoilers, can you share your favorite scene from the book?
The only thing I’ll share is that it is where Anne finally realizes her own feelings for Geoffrey and accepts his. Which is hard for her on both accounts as she’s been burned and is not trusting.
What was one of the most interesting things you learned in researching your book?
Irish history. I’ve always been a huge English/British history buff, but this time I got to research Ireland and found how much I didn’t know.
Tell us a little bit about your hero and who makes his perfect other half.
Geoffrey lives life as he wants – he’s an artist. He is smart and observant. His attitude can be sometimes misconstrued as cockiness. His perfect other half can be found in Anne because even though she has been through a lot, she is a woman who knows what she wants and knows how to make decisions.
What would readers see in your sequels?
Development and growth of the characters.
What is one particular aspect about the book that you want readers to take away from this interview?
Perhaps that you can achieve whatever you set your mind to do. It does not matter the circumstances as long as you believe in yourself and your ideas, etc. it will happen.
Can you leave readers with a teaser from the book?
Fall in the Northwest is quite different from that in north Georgia. It gets cold soon after Labor Day and not being able to go outside and walk without freezing is a drawback.
I have extended my walking perimeter to include a park just off the public docks not far from Kat’s home. I go to sit on one of the many benches lined up along the walkway to watch the boats and goings on.
“Beautiful afternoon, isn’t it?” An Irish brogue behind me inquires.
Without moving to try and see who I’m talking to I merely nod my head. I know who is addressing me.
“May I?” He asked, sitting beside me.
“It’s a free country last time I heard,” I answered regretting my cockiness immediately.
“So, Ms. Harrison, what brings you to Seattle?”
I sit up and look at him. He is extremely good looking I think. “I went through a bad divorce and my girlfriend Kat convinced me I needed a fresh start. So here I am.”
“Kat? Kat Brown?”
“Yes. That’s right, I forgot. You know her beau, Tom Delany, don’t you?”
“Yes, I know Tom quite well. And I’ve met Kat as well.” he replied putting his sunglasses on top of his head. His hair is thick, cut and kept in the fashionable tousled look.
“Do you live around here Geoff?” I inquired noting to myself that if he doesn’t he’s come out of his way.
“No, I live over on Lake Union. I have a houseboat there. I keep my sailboat moored here.” He points out toward the end of the docks where sailboats stay moored, their masts bobbing up and down in the water.
“Hmmm… a houseboat, huh? That fits you, Geoff.”
“I love it, no yard to keep up,” he replied. “It’s centrally located and ideal for a bachelor like me.”
“I’ll have to remember that when it comes time for me to buy.” Ha, I think to myself. It’ll be a cold day in you-know-where before I can buy myself anything, let alone a house.
“Do you sail?”
I nod my head. “Yes, although I have to admit it’s been years.”
“Good. Perhaps you’ll join me sometime.”
Looking down at my watch I note it’s later than I thought. “I’d like that.” I replied. “I hate to rush off, but Kat is preparing for a function and I promised her I’d help her out after I took my walk.”
He stands with me and takes my hand. “I enjoyed your company. Until next time, Ms. Anne Harrison.”
Jamie Salisbury cannot imagine a time when she did not write. A skill that has served her well throughout her professional career. Public relations in and around the entertainment industry, photography, editing, and special event planning all elevated her passion for writing.
An avid reader of histories, biographies, and romance, it’s only natural that part of the products of her pen are historical romances featuring characters so authentic they spring forth from the page and shake the reader’s hand. Many of her teen years were spent in Chile, but she and her family were forced out of the country when the political climate demanded it.
Taking the plunge to take her writing professional came as a result of a series of foot surgeries that left her with a lot of time on her hands. Unable to walk great distances at the time, she started writing as a way to pass the time. Her experiences of how dramatically her life had changed at first. Then the new world of e-publishing inspired her to digitally publish her first novel, Perpetual Love, rather than relegate it to the dreaded drawer. She couldn’t be happier with her decision to grab the publishing industry by the shoulders and force it to pay attention to all she has to offer.
Two more novels have followed: Blood Lust and Tudor Rose, with more to follow soon.
Jamie now lives outside of Atlanta, but the love for travel has never abandoned her. Adventure, exploration, and intrigue permeate her prose to the core.
In those few moments of the day when she’s not writing or thinking about writing, she finds knitting a way to relax and unwind. Other interests include photography, equestrianism, reading, and of course traveling.
Jamie hopes her writing will entertain, enlighten, and inspire others to pick up the pen and pursue their own dreams. She loves to be contacted by readers, writers, and history buffs.

You’re my biggest stalker. . .er follower to date!! LOL!
Again thanks for all the kind compliments!
Researching Irish History would have been very interesting. I love the fact that we will see the characters development further as the series progresses.

Hi Mary!
I’m a history buff – so I love doing the research! Yes, the characters will be developing as the series progresses – and thanks for following the blog tour!
I was taking a look at your other works at your website and Amazon. I find the fact that you are writing in various genres interesting. Your Albert & Anne series sounds good and something that is also not written very often,,,sequential books with the same characters, different situations and a bit later in their lives as well as set in the old West. Then the rock music industry and another book ‘Blood Lust’ is set in England in another century (18th?). And now a ‘cougar’ book. Quite an assortment. It can’t be easy writing and researching such a wide range of topics. Some authors can pull it off and some can’t. What genre and time period do you most enjoy writing?
I might also mention that when I first saw the title ‘Timeless Sojourn’, I thought it was a time-travel themed book. So, I guess it’s true, you can’t judge a book by its cover!
Hi Karen –
I like to think of myself as a Women’s Fiction Writer – that being said – I write romance – whether it be historical or contemporary – that’s why you see some in 18th century England, some in the American west and the contemporaries. Right now contemporary seems to be in my brain – LOL!
And yes, you can never judge a book by it’s title! I have found that out myself!
Thanks for your comments! I love hearing from readers!
I enjoyed the blurb and am looking forward to reading the book.
Hi Rita!
Glad you liked the blurb and hope you’ll enjoy the book as well!
Thanks!
It’s interesting and refreshing to see a divorce story that involves internal change, rather than an external event. It sounds like an interesting book.
Thanks Trix!
When I sat down to write this book – I felt the same way – plus it had a lot of personal experience to add. I felt like you hardly ever see what the person who is going through it is feeling, going through. It’s always the nasty parts. There is a tad of the external, but that’s more of getting some background on the main heroine Anne. Hope you get a chance to read it.
I’m going to do a test because a lot of my comments are not showing up. So if this shows up and not my comment to you – it’s because we have a techno problem!!
Sometimes mental cruelty is worse than physical. I am glad to know you are writing about it the story souns awesome.
Thanks MomJane!
I absolutely agree with you – mental abuse can sometimes be far greater than the physical. The story will develop touching on that a bit more. . .Hope you get a chance to read it.
Thanks for the interview and excerpt, I found it interesting. And an older woman falling for a younger man is an intriguing concept, as I am an older woman now myself
auriansbooks at gmail dot com
Hi Arian -
Hee hee, well I’m on “older” woman myself and I wanted to write something more realistic than what I was finding!. A lot of the “cougar” books as they’re so horribly called have an older housewife with a younger pool boy or something along those lines – fluff. This portrayal in Timeless Sojourn is more real life.
Hope you get a chance to read it! Thanks!
thanks for a fun post and giveaway! Congrats on the newest release!
Thanks Erin!!
I would love to read this series. It sounds very good. What inspired you to be a writer? Please enter me in contest.
HI Victoria!
Thanks! Hope you get a chance to read it. . .
What inspired me to be a writer. . .hmmm. . .reading stuff by Shakespeare, Jane Austen, etc. People have been writing since the beginning of time. . .so if they could, why not me! I also had a wonderful teacher in high school for a creative writing course I took. She was very encouraging – to her none of her students was a bad writer – they just needed encouragement and guidance. She was way ahead of her time. . .
You’re entered in the contest!
Sorry for not getting on here yesterday! I was having some technical difficulties on and off!
Thanks for having me! You have a great site!
I apologize, but not all my comments are showing up (at least not at the moment). I have replied to everyone who has taken the time to write one. Perhaps they’ll show up soon! Technology! Gotta love it!!
Very nice interview and excerpt.
